On Thursday, June 4, 2015 the Office of Personnel Management and the Interior Department (“OPM”) confirmed that the data systems that controls security clearances and employee records have been breached, impacting at least 4 million current and former federal employees. OPM, along with the Department of Homeland Security, is investigating the breach of federal employee personal data that could potentially affect every federal agency.

 

Century Federal strongly recommends that all members that are current or former employees of OPM or any federal agency carefully monitor their accounts for any suspicious or unknown activity. OPM is offering affected individuals credit monitoring services and identity theft insurance with CSID, a company that specializes in identity theft protection and fraud resolution.

Home Depot Data Breach:

 

Home Depot recently disclosed they are investigating a possible nationwide breach of its customer's personal data.

Home Depot recently disclosed they are investigating a possible nationwide breach of its customer’s personal data. If this attack is confirmed at the 2,200 Home Depot stores in the United States, the data breach could prove to be on the same scale as the Target breach last year.

Century Federal strongly recommends that all members that have conducted transactions at Home Depot using their debit and/or credit cards carefully monitor their accounts for any suspicious or unknown activity. Home Depot states stated that it has not determined whether a breach actually occurred, but customers will not be responsible for any possible fraudulent charges on their credit or debit cards if one did.

Phishing Scams:

 

Century Federal Credit Union (CFCU) will never ask for any personal or account information, including Social Security numbers, account numbers, card numbers, security questions, PINs, email addresses or passwords via email, unsolicited phone calls or text messages.

 

To report a suspicious email or text message that uses Century Federal Credit Union’s (CFCU) name, please forward the email to us immediately at memberservices@cenfedcu.org or call us at 216-535-3200 (locally) or 800-615-2328 (toll-free). CFCU will never send emails or text messages asking you to reveal your account information (we already have that information).  If you receive an email or text message with this request, delete the message immediately and do not click on the link(s).

There has been a recent increase in phishing scams against financial institutions, including those targeting Century Federal Credit Union. Current phishing attempts on Century Federal Credit Union are in the form of emails and text messages to customers asking them to complete an online form by supplying account information and PIN numbers.

If you receive an email, phone call or text message requesting verification of your Social Security number, account number, password or PIN, DO NOT ENTER the information. Instead, please contact CFCU at 216-535-3200 (locally) or 800-615-2328 (toll-free) for verification before responding to any such request.

Heartbleed Security Bug Update

 

A website security bug known as "Heartbleed" has been in the news lately and CFCU would like our members to know that our website is safe from the encryption risks from Heartbleed. To protect yourself as a consumer, CFCU suggests using unique usernames and passwords on all websites that you visit regularly. To limit your password security risk please follow these tips:

 

•Use passwords that contain 8 characters or more

                      • Upper case letters (e.g. B, F, T)

                      • Lower case letters (e.g. b, f, t)

                      • Numbers (e.g. 1, 2, 3)

                      • Special characters (e.g. #, %, &)

•Store your passwords in a secure place

•Do not share your passwords with anyone

•Change your passwords on a frequent basis

ATM Funds Availability Policy Change

 

This Notice describes a change to CFCU's Funds Availability Policy statement. Effective May 15, 2014, availability of deposits made through proprietary and non-proprietary ATMs will be as follows: CFCU owned ATMs - $500.00 will be available immediately. The availability of the remaining funds are subject to CFCU's Funds Availability Policy disclosure statement. Non-CFCU owned ATMs - $500.00 will be available immediately. The remaining funds will generally be available on the fifth (5) business day following the deposit, unless other holds and delays apply. This is a change from the current ATM withdraw availability. We are aware of the data breach recently announced by Target on some credit and debit cards used at Target stores between November 27 and December 15.

 

Here's what you should know:

You do not need to call us at this time unless you see transactions you do not recognize. We will let you know if we see unusual activity on your account. We will also send you a new card if we determine that is necessary.

 

Here's what you should do:

Continue using your CFCU debit and credit cards. We will continue to monitor activities and information as it unfolds concerning the Target data breach.

 

Monitor your account - including using www.CenFedCU.org or Eagle Mobility - and let us know if you see any transactions you do not recognize.

 

If you have not already done so, enroll in CFCU's Online Banking here. It is free to all CFCU members , and allows you to track all activity in your accounts.


 

Attention Online Banking Users - Security Enhancement

 

CFCU wanted to prepare you for an Online Banking Security Enhancement.  Effective December 17, 2013 your Online Banking password must be changed to our more secure format. 

 

Criteria for passwords must meet these requirements:

  • Password must be between 8 -20 characters in length

  • Password must contain TWO of the following:

    • Upper case letters (e.g. B, F, T)

    • Lower case letters (e.g. b, f, t)

    • Numbers (e.g. 1, 2, 3)

    • Special characters (e.g. #, %, &)

    • Password CANNOT contain member names, phone numbers or social security numbers.

 

Members whose passwords do not meet these criteria as of December 17, 2013 will be required to change their password to the enhanced security format when you login.

Federal Benefit Payments - Switched March 1, 2013

If you receive Social Security or other federal benefits payment by paper check, the U.S. Department of the Treasury required you to switch to an electronic payment method (direct deposit) or Direct Express® Debit MasterCard by March 1, 2013.

If you did not make the switch to either Direct Deposit or Direct Express®, here’s how now:

  • Direct Deposit to a checking or savings account at Century Federal Credit Union, with our help.
  • Direct Express® Debit MasterCard card.

Century Federal Credit Union is here to help you switch to Direct Deposit if that’s your chosen method of payment.  Otherwise, if you choose the Direct Express® Debit MasterCard card, you can switch at your local federal benefit agency office, online at www.GoDirect.org or by calling the U.S. Treasury Electronic Payment Solution Center at 800.333.1795.
